I’ve just arrived here so I’m not sure how old Cassidy is, but I do remember my own teen years (I’m only 23) and I remember trying to lie to my mum. It wasn’t long before I realised that she was pretty damn smart and my lies weren’t working.

Now that I’m older I realise that she knew even more than I thought, but I love her like a best friend.

You’re doing the right thing. Even if she resents you for a while for taking her privaleges she’ll get over it when she’s older.

I think the worst I ever did was fall asleep in my bed, and my parents went crazy looking for me. for a couple hours. finally my mom looked in my room and there i was asleep.

and btw honey, as much shit as we fling at each other in frustration over parenting (because we’re struggling to rid ourselves of our parental issue ghosts), remember that I love you with all of my heart, and Cassidy too! (even when she does crazy kid shit like this!). Things like this issue just server to remind me… well… of me.

I still remember the horrible things I did to my parents growing up, and I also remember, it didn’t have anything to do with me harboring negative feelings for them, so… take that with you. It had to do with me not understanding repecting the rules or wanting to push them because I didn’t understand how much they’d be pushed back.

I won’t post too many exmaples here for fear that Cassidy will eventually read them and use them against me! (heh)

Anna’s path image is not accurate, This this is actually a much more accurate picture. In short, her walk to school is .7 miles, and her deviation (round trip, increased her walk to school by .4 miles (.2 miles each way), and added a visit next to a four lane expressway (for class road).

Heh, we have the same dynamic at our house. I’m the caver… I’m working on it though. It’s just hard when she gets all upset and tears roll down her cheeks. She’s so friggin cute that you cave without realizing it.

Hopefully your punishment about the store will help. I can completely understand why you freaked out.

Ben and your friends who have already commented are right, you are doing the right thing. She had her chance, you made clear what would happen if she crossed the line again. CASSIDY made a bad choice. She chose to be grounded based on her assumption that you would cave again. If you do, she will make the same choice next time WITHOUT GIVING IT A THOUGHT. If you stick to your guns, she may still make a wrong choice, but she will sure think about it before doing it. If you consistently stick to your guns she will get the clue and either fall into line or spend her life in her bedroom. In each case that will be HER choice, not something you DID TO HER.

Keep it up! You’re doing good, even though it is painful.

I definitely agree with you here, it sounds really rough especially losing out on everything coming up but if she doesn’t learn now then she may push even more. Stick to your guns. *hugs*
