V-Day ’07

I was telling Ben this morning how silly the girls are here at work. The ones that didn’t get flowers make sure to point it out and the girls that DID get flowers all say how “if he’d LISTEN for once he’d know I prefer YELLOW roses.” Or, “Yeah, that’s just what I need, more chocolate!”.

I feel sad for these girls. Sad that these women (who are ALL older than me) place so much value on such trivial crap. Like, choose to see the BRIGHT side of things. For ONCE. If he sent you chocolate he must not think your thighs are as big as you do, because if he did he’d have sent a box of Slim Fast. THAT would have been something worth complaining about!

During this talk I told Ben how lucky it makes me feel that we have eachother. Mainly, that I have him.

Benjamin: why all the kisses?
me: Well, I listen to the girls here find reasons to complain about Valentines Day and it makes me realize how lucky I am
Benjamin: well, I haven’t done anything today
so, how are you lucky today?
me: It doesn’t matter. You do things all the time
Benjamin: I do?
me: Yep.

So, why am I lucky? Let’s see…

1) I found The One. Knowing that with such certainty is a powerful feeling. Before Ben, I started to believe that feeling was just a myth. Something in movies and cheap paperback romance novels.

3) Ben has stepped up and proven to be a better father to my daughter than I ever thought ANY man could be. See, here’s the thinking positive part. I sometimes think that he’s too strict. I’m the lenient one, he’s the hard ass. That’s how our roles play out. BUT! He does these things, like coming home after a long day and sitting in shitty traffic for an hour and the first thing he does when he walks in is pay attention to Cassidy. Like, we exchange Hello’s, maybe kiss, or a ‘how was the drive’. But then he takes time to check on her. Is your homework done? Is your room clean? How was school? What did you learn today? Did anything funny happen? Have you figured out that quantum physics problem yet?

And I admit, there are days where I’m like, HELLO!! ME!! REMEMBER ME, ANNA, YOUR FIANCE, I HAD A GOOD DAY AND MY ROOM IS CLEAN AND LET ME TELL YOU THIS FUNNY STORY ABOUT THAT ONE GIRL WHOS BLOG I READ!!! But he does this because he loves her and he wants her to learn about being responsible and dependable and self reliant. Her future and the person she grows into is important to him. Cassidy and I are very lucky that he is a part of our lives.

4) He’s a bigger geek than I am and he doesn’t judge me for thinking that Voyager is the best Star Trek season or because I was Princess Leah for three Halloween’s in a row when I was younger. Or that I can totally kick his ass at Unreal Tournament. *swoon*

5) He’s passionate. And I don’t mean in the sexual sense. (Well, that too) He is passionate about life, about what he believes in and about the things he loves to do. I’m jealous of that sometimes. But it’s rubbing off on me.

6) He stuck by me when I was a manic, depressed, crazy wench. And be believed that I could get better.

7) I laugh. Everyday. At my own expense. Because him making fun of me is the funniest thing I’ve ever heard. He’s the person that taught me to laugh at myself and best of all, to be able to appreciate the ability to do that.

I could really go on this way till my fingers can’t take it anymore. These are just a few of the things that I love, that I’m happy for, reasons that I think I’m lucky. Roses and chocolate are good, but knowing that I get to go home to the man of my dreams, my future husband, nothing compares to that…

Huh?

So I guess I’m gonna have to track down Erika and shove her hair down her throat now. Ewww. I’m not even sure if I’ll watch the last episode because I really don’t care at this point who wins it. Well, maybe I will. Hopefully they’ll show DR sessions and Boogie referring to Erika as “Scrubbica is HOmance”. HA! Idiots.

Ben is driving his M3. Hallilujah, his toy is running. Two months, lots of hours and two motors later he was able to take it for a drive last Saturday. Now we just need to get him back to the track. BUT! He’s considering a cam kit before then. Which might not be bad because he’ll need to get a different flywheel meaning I’ll get his UUC and if I can stand the chatter, get a short shift kit and a clutch stop I’d be a happy happy camper.. That can shift like lightening and take corners better than YOU! Okay, that sounded kinda selfish. But still!

Cassidy is going to a movie night at Nathan’s school tomorrow to watch Herbie Fully Loaded. At first I was like, NO DATES ARE YOU CRAZY MAN GET OUT OF MY HOUSE but give me my Capri Sun and chips back first!! Then he mentioned that *swoon* Lindsey Lohan was in that and his eyes glassed over and he turned red and he got lost in outter space somewhere for about a minute and I realized that he’d probably totally ignore Cassidy the entire time. Well, that and he will be with his mom and brother and sister and 500 classmates. Har.

My birthday is in three days so you should probably get the presents in the mail now so they get here in time.

Sorry for the randomness. Sinus medicine can do that to somebody who is already somewhat mentally unstable. I like pie.

Ben and I are both hooked.  Ben had not see the first seasons at all and I had caught shows randonly so we’ve started Netflixing them.  We watched four shows this evening and probably would have watched more except there are only four shows per DVD.

HEE HEE!  If you have not yet, check them out.  Fantastic show.  Plus, when I was younger I used to day dream that I was some Super Secret Totally Awsome FBI agent who saved the world over and over and over.  So this just gives me fresh story lines…

Shut up.

SK2 OTA2.3

Life with my Sidekick has been fantastic. I looked up a cut of beef as we sat track side at Laguna Seca for Ben as well as looking up the schedule for the day. At dinner the other night I was able to see if a store was still going to be open when we left… it’s just endless, really. Let’s see:

• I have most of my email forwarded to it so I am ALWAYS able to check it.
• I have various shopping lists that I keep as notes. One note for each place. If I think of something I need from one of the places I can add it to the list in SECONDS.
• I put EVERYTHING in my calendar. From appointments with the head doctor to reminders that it’s trash day. Every day I make sure that my Outlook and Sidekick are updated.
• Every time I use the ATM check card I send Ben an email because he is the Updater of the Quicken God. I can now send him stuff AS I do it. Actually, I need to be better about this and not putting it off till later because that makes his job more difficult… I’m trying.
• I’m not bored sitting outside Cassidy’s class waiting for her anymore!! Today I actually researched sewing machines while I waited. The other day I looked up some low carb recipes for dinner ideas.

The list goes ON AND ON…

Right after I got it I started hearing rumors on the SK forums about a new update OTA (Over The Air) 2.3. It was supposed to have all sorts of fancy new features like time stamps for AIM and the ability to read CSS. I wanted it. Right then. Unfortunately all Dander and T-Mobile would say is that the updates were being sent out “randomly” and “when you got it you got it the end”. I’m not sure if you all realize this, but the part of my brain that controls my patience level is broken. I don’t have it. At all. None. Zilch. NON EXISTENT!!

After waiting what seemed AGES… JULIE GOT IT! $^!*#@$*!@ I tried not to hate her. I tried not to be jealous. But if she wasn’t such a nice girl I’d probably have stolen hers in the night because… I BOUGHT MINE FIRST AND IT JUST WASN’T FAIR!

THEN! Yesterday after work I checked the forum and LO AND BEHOLD people were saying after a few restarts… the update started DLing!! After about 10 restarts and Ben mocking my obsession for a good 20 minutes it started downloading!! And then my battery light came on… heh I plugged it in though and got the update and it’s like a whole new devise!!

There are SO many more things but those are the features that I use the most. I’m telling you, this is the BEST purchase I’ve made in a long time.

P.S. – I am now addicted to City of Villians. Hence the lack of updates. And if this post does not confirm my ridiculous geekyness I don’t know what could..

Imma Geek.

When I get to work it’s 6:00AM. Still dark. When I wake up it’s about 7:00AM. So there’s an hour in there where things happen that I should probably know about and don’t. And things happen that make me wake up instantly and want to shoot myself in the foot… like on Monday when I closed my hatch onto my cell phone and shattered both the inside and outide LCD so that I can’t see the time, who’s calling, phone numbers, alarm settings, etc. It was like somebody had cut off my right arm. No, it was worse than that because then at least I could blame somebody else for the STUPID move.

After I threw up a few times and said my weekly quota of ‘fucks’ and ‘shits’ I went inside, put on my headphones, sat at my desk and pretended to work. It’s amazing how dependent you become on a little tiny piece of technology. I knew I needed a new phone right away so I started looking at he one I’ve been eyeing for awhile, the Mototorla Razr V3. I looked around for the cheapest place to get it. Even on Ebay it was just under $300. For a phone. Ugh.

Ben saw that if we renewed our Cingular contract we could get the phone for $200. Score. We go to Cingular that evening (Despite the fact I have a fever and feel nausious. Yes, it’s THAT important to me.) and talk to a girl there about getting that done. She tells us that we can’t upgrade our phones till November 18th. A month away. Ben asks if there is a way we can get that overriden. We are resigning another year long contract and it’s ONLY a month away. She tells us only her supervisor can do that but she’ll go ask him. When she returns she tells us he doens’t think there is anything he can do but he’ll be with us anyway in a few minutes.

So we wait a few minutes and out of the back of the store comes the manager visibly annoyed and stomping up to the counter where we were standing and:

Manager: I told her there’s nothing I can do. I can’t over ride it. What do you want me to do?
Ben and I: *shocked and silent for a second*
Manager: I mean, you can all customer service but that’s the only way.
Ben: Okay, that was of no help to me. That’s exactly what she said.
Manager: *shrugs* Well, you can call them.
Ben: What you have told me has been of no help. *starts to walk out*
Me: *follows Ben*
Manager: *tries to save the sale* Well, you can call them from here and I can take care of it.
Ben: You have been no help.
Me: *as I walk out the door, LOUDLY* Aparently customer service doens’t mean anything to them here.
Ben: *loudly* I guess not!

Before he got the whole way to the car (maybe 20 feet away) Ben turned around and headed back inside to ge the managers name. He was already in the back probably shoveling more food into his fat face.

We came home and after phone calls, and internet browsing and more nausea, we headed to T-Mobile. I’ve wanted a Sidekick for probably close to a year and a half but never dreamed, ever, that I’d have one. Ever.

When we got to T-Mobile there was a CHAIR for me to sit in… and Phu, our salesman, was AWSOME. We got the sidekick AND two accessories for LESS than what the Razr would have been. AND I HAVE A SIDEKICK!!

I haven’t put the thing down in two days. I feel like crap. My head is pounding, I’m feverish.. BUT I HAVE A SIDEKICK! I HAVE A SIDEKICK! I HAVE A SIDEKICK!

Like crack.

I’m once again becoming addicted to City of Heroes. I like my new Hero. She’s a tanker. And she’s cute. And she can take on 10 men all attacking her and walk away with all her endurance and most of her life. Basically, she kicks ASS!

Unfortunately, like my healer, she can’t solo. I need a good damage dealer to dish it out while I have the baddies aggro’d and attacking me.
